Common name: Julie

Region: Lake Tanganyika

Size: 4-5 inches

Color: White with black spots/stripes

Water Chemistry: pH: 8.6, hardness: very hard

Temperature: 77-79

Aggression: agressive

Compatibility: Best kept with fellow Tanganyikans

Diet: Omnivorous

How to breed: Julies are unique in that they will mate for life. Once they've paired off, leave teh decor (territories) in the tank in tact. About 50 eggs will be laid at a time.

General: This is a very cool - and yes, cute - fish to keep in the aquarium. Although they are somewhat shy, they tend to be quite aggressive towards tankmates. You should provide quite a bit of rockwork for these fish to establish territories.

We have 3 of these in a mixed Tanganyikan tank. We like them and judge them as less aggressive than many other African Cichlid types.

Egglayers are tropical fish that lay eggs but it isn't that simlpe there are hundreds of species and many variations of egg laying.From mouth brooders to scatterers to bubble nest builders the story is fascinating so get ready for a long long tale.

Depends on the pet store water really as I montien later in the video, if you'd watched that far. Many stores have central systems which generally bring problems back to your home as all the tanks are linked.Ours are all seperate and each one has its own net so when you get fish, you also get good mature water.If you shop at poor quality shops, I too would advise netting the fish out of the bag to avoid problems, yes.But why shop at bad shops?
