Eye Infection - 2008/10/15 17:33 Hello,

I have been happily keeping Cichlids for about 8 years now and haven't had any health problems in either of my tanks during this period, but recently one of my favourite Cichlids developed a translucent film over one of its eyes and I'm puzzeled as to what to do with it. My concern is growing each day as the eye seems to now be growing larger, appearing like an infectious growth compared to the other healthy eye.

Can an experienced Cichlid keeper please come to the rescue of my no doubt suffering (and otherwise gorgeous) fish?

Thank you very much in advance. Jason

Re:Eye Infection - 2008/10/19 20:05 it sounds like your fish has pop eye which can be a lot of things. but most likely you are right, its an infection. what you need to do is get a broad specrtrum antibiotic which can cure a lot of disease, and infections the eye will go down in size but you will be able to notice a difference even after the infection is gone. you will also want to check you ph and amonia levels to see if they are ok. two other things are very important water quality and keeping the fish stress levels low. i hope this helps you
