supid question - 2008/08/15 09:01 ok so i jsut got 10 ast. african chiclids and 1 lab (who was in there mixed with the others and didnt notice til i got home ) and um one that was in the same tank as the ast. but he is black and white spotted and was 25 bucks lol but my question is i have them in a 55 g now and they are tiny and loving all the space but i know they each get abt 4 inch so how much of an upgrade will then need for when they are biggger

Re:supid question - 2008/08/18 03:53 As a general rule I have always kept a minimum of two gallons of water to one inch of fish so as to not overload the biofilter. Now that having been said I keep much larger chiclids, Oscars and Pacus, so they of course produce more waste.

Re:supid question - 2008/08/20 02:20 No question is stupid when dealing with African Cichlids. They are easy to keep. The blsck and white spots might be a tropheus Duboisi. Depending on what species the size will vary a great deal...from 3" up. Yes you have some time because some may be small adults like demasoni. Good luck
