I for one do not think so. Thanks to the sopnge prefilter, the canister filter can focus on biological (and chemical if necessary) filtration effectively. At least I think it is much easier to just detach and rinse the sponge. Besides, if you often detach the AquaStop and the lid from the Fluval filter, it might wear out the sealing rubber and cause leak in the end.
Since the sponge prefilter is large, I do not have to bother rinsing it often.
