Hello. I am fairly new to keeping cichlids. I have a 55 gallon tank with a combinaton of African and South American cichlids. I was wondering if this is o.k. or weather I should keep them seperate. I haven't had any fighting or anything but I just wanted some opinions.

A have a few fish of which breed I do not know of. But they have been chasing each other lately and have gone into the "breeding rock" and the supposedly male is more aggressive than usual but does not vibrate, he chases her (pregnant but cannot release eggs somewhat) and tries to bite her bottom. Any idea why...? BTW I'll try and describe what they look like Former male: Blackish - greyish with black eyes, black stripes, not much of a cranial hump and a large dot towards the end of the tail fin. The supposedly female has a rather large stomach due to carrying eggs, black stripes falling down towards the stomach and that it. Thanks for helpign OR trying =D.
