Compatibility: Best kept with fellow Tanganyikans, they do well with Julies
Diet: Carnivorous
How to breed: Spawning can take place in rocks, inverted flower pots (that's where I've had the most success), or even large shells in the aquarium. They may even kill other shell dwellers to find an acceptable spawning location. Spawning begins by the female leading the male to her cave. She then attaches her eggs on the sides of the cave, and the male swims over them, depositing his sperm. You can expect around 100 fry.
General: The leleupi is my favourite cichlid of all time. I had no idea that the yellow strain is aquarium bred, they are not naturally this yellow in the wild. They can be a little aggressive, but they are an extremely attractive fish. |
