Are cichlids compatible with commom goldfish? - 2007/11/02 09:14 Im setting up my very first tank and Ive decided that cichlids are my choice of fish to have. Ive got several common goldfish in my tank right now. My tank has been set up for about 3 weeks. I put 6 goldfish in 2 weeks ago. 4 died. Yesterday I put 8 more in. How long should I wait to test my water again and then put in my first cichlids? Am i going to need to take the goldfish out when i introduce the new cichlids to the tank?

Re:Are cichlids compatible with commom goldfish? - 2007/11/02 10:02 I would wait 5-7 days before testing again.

And you probably don't need to take the goldfish out - the cichlids should do that for you

Re:Are cichlids compatible with commom goldfish? - 2007/11/09 03:30 Yes, they are compatible. Let me explain... I had a 1800 gallon pond when i lived in Hawaii. There were about 45 Koi. Once i realized that i couldn't controll the algae growth, I put in about 70 zebra mutts from another tank. They all coexsist well. BUT, i would take yours out and cycle with mollies instead. Common goldfish harbor numerous diseases, certain death for you new tank.
