New and need some help - 2008/10/09 10:19 Hello-
I'm new and want to get into the hobby.I'm about to get a 150 gal. tank from a friend. What do I need for the tank ? How many cichlids would be good after everything is set up ? I've read that water must be changed every week. What is the best way to do this ?
Thanks for any help and I'm sure I will have alot more questions.

Re:New and need some help - 2008/10/11 14:14 First of all 150 gallons is big to start with. you will need a filter that can handle that, gravel or sand, plants and other things for fish to hide in. you won't need to change the water weekly. you will only change 10 percent weekly(15 gallons)and 25 percent monthly which is about 38 gallons. and the best way is with a siphon or you can buy a gravel vacuum. to finish your question how many fish depending on size and aggression of the fish. but a rule of thumb is 1-2 gallons of water per inch of fish. if your fish has a maximum size of 8 inches it would need atleast 8 gallons of water
