Kribensis (Pelvicachromis pulcher) feeding - 2008/05/19 05:00
Hello everyone...
I'm new to the forum and new to the hobby of fish keeping. I have a 120 liter (31gallon) tank with 2 kribs (male female), 6 tiger barbs and one leopard pleco with a few live plants, a cave made of rocks and some drift wood. I have a few questions... and please let me know if I should post them in another spot...
1. FEEDING: The kribs have been in there the longest (with the exeption to the pleco) and they are quite slow to eat... I use pellets that sink to the bottom and freeze dried brine shrimp (that floats). The barbs (usually) devour the pellets on the way down while the kribs will suck in a pellet or two and spit it out... Is it possible they dont like them? It also takes a lot of tempting to get them to rise to the surface to eat the brine shrimp. That they like... When they figure out it's there! I have been feeding them the freeze dried brine shrimp for about a week (once every few days) but usually I take it out with the net as it is not eaten. Yesterday was the first time they got to it... and it seemed that they loved it.
The male spends most of the time picking at the gravel, rock, wood and plant life. Is there food there? He's not picking up the pellets that make it to the bottom...
Any suggestions as to what else I can feed them?
2: ATTITUDE: The female seems more dominant than the male... She was stalking him till I put in the barbs. Now they are more of a couple, swimming around together etc... But she kinda bumps into his side every once in a while and makes him shake a bit, (like he's trembling, for just a second or two). She has a red belly but he's not that colorful yet. Could it be she is initiating breeding?
I will put in a 1/2 cocomut in a few days, cause it seems that the pleco has made the cave his own...
