Re:Fry and such - 2008/02/16 09:11Well the stand up heroics of my yellow lab didn't last long .. The pregnant beast started whaling on him again .... I just couldn't take it any more, plus it would chase my little pleco .... So I got a divider and quarantined her and she is still nasty ..I only have a 10 g tank so I gave her about 6.5 inches of the wide side ..... A half a terra-cotta pot and thats it.... She can dig away and be nasty through the screen which she is.... S o now she can have her babies and do what ever she is going to do... I might give her away to the fish store , as they are getting some more live fish in and maybe have something else I want .....

Re:Fry and such - 2008/02/16 15:05OK so i have her in her own section .... she still digs everything up and is even pushing little boulders around, lol ..S o I take out all the coral and rocks in her section , and as soon as the dust clears , I will vac out the debris left in her part of the tank... with nothing in there to move around maybe she will relaxe ... Though her and the yellow lab are having fun fighting from each side of the screen ....

Re:Fry and such - 2008/02/17 02:56Bleieve it or not , she has calmed down allot and seems more content. I have broken out the 5 gallon tanks , and am going to clean it up and put her in it ... I think I will just kep her out of population and let her live by herself... in a tank with no gravel .. She is a neat freak , so I will accommodate her ,
Her and the yellow lab seem to have finally realized that they can't reach each other through the screen .. Though they still try to bite each others mouths , it's not as intense as it was ....

Re:Fry and such - 2008/02/17 08:17I got the 5g set up and put the beast and the johannis electric in it. Just a bare tank with a half terra cotta pot in it .... I could see the electric blue had some of the beasts traits in it so I said what the heck......
I did pick up a sans fontosia is it called ? Like the one on the header page of tis forum ...... Says the relatively mild fish ... So thats what I want from now on ... I was going in and saying ...OH thats pretty lol,
With out to much more thought .... So now I will read up a bit more before I buy .....
Its mild mannered, non excavating types for me ......

Re:Fry and such - 2008/02/17 23:06Hi downeast, you sound like your having some fun The new fish you bought, the san fontosia. I think , if it is the one on the top of the site page with black stripes, is actually called a frontosa and are really bad for moving the gravel or sand around. They are a very mild mannered fish and beautiful to look at. I have 2 of them and they are my favourite fish. Good luck with your frontosa and i hope you enjoy them as much as i do. Here is a pic of mine

Re:Fry and such - 2008/02/18 00:18Ya thats it ... He and the yellow lab are getting along real good ... I am thinking if there are no females that he might stay chilled out ... Th yellow doesn't dig at all, maybe a piece here and there .... Course as I type this and look over he is moving gravel..... I don't mind if they move a little ,but that other fish moved half of a ten gallon tank before ... Thats extreme ..
With the other two out , my pleco is now coming out and swimming around as the yellow never bothered it and the new San as some interest but hasn't bugged it yet ....
The San Fontosa reminds me of a panda bear with that stripe on his face ..I hope he doesn't grow to fast as they get big .. I also wish his blue fins would come out and stay blue a bit more than they are ...
Is that pic from your tank ?

Re:Fry and such - 2008/02/18 17:51Hi Yes that is my tank. The frontosa is a 2 1/2 year old male. He is constantly rearranging the stones in the tank. When i clean the tank i put all the stones back and he starts moving them where he wants them straight away. They are a beautiful and graceful fish. They grow slowly compaired to some other big fish. Mine is about5-6 inches at 2 1/2 years. When your frontosa settles in properly it should show its blue fins. Good luck.
p.s where are you from as i have never heard the frontosa called san fontosa

Re:Fry and such - 2008/02/19 05:18North East coast of the U.S ,New England
The Sans was on the tag stuck on the tank ... The rest of it was misspelling of the name ...... I do think I have seen the Sans in front somewhere else though .....
He better not dig to much or I will put him in the 5 gal with the beast ..........

Re:Fry and such - 2008/02/20 09:53All seems , quiet on the eastern front ... The beast is much calmer in her new 5 gal tank with her buddy the 1/4 her size Johannis blue...
The Yellow Lab is happy with his new buddy the Frontosa ... They actually chum around together and seem quite content ....
